Trips to NUH and many more to come...my mum's conditions
Yesterday and this morning had been spending time in the hospital... Yesterday was my mum's operation.
All of us except sis who was working, went to NUH by taxi at ard 3pm, and soon we were led to the Day Surgery Centre. She changed into those greenish cloth thingy and laid on the bed for a long period of time before it was her turn. It was ard 5pm. I had brought my laptop along, so I watched some animes while waiting. After she was pushed into the surgery room, me and dad went for dinner. The food there is average and yet it is very costly. Compared to similar food courts, their food prices are relatively higher, a classic sample of monopoly.
After dinner, dad continued walking ard in the hospital while I went back to the beds there and watched animes until my battery went out completely. So i juz sat there.... it was ard 7 plus... finally my sis came after her work. So we two sat there and talked. Sis suggested playing Bingo.
While we were abt to start the game, mum was back on the stretcher/bed or watever u call that. It was better than last time becos this time she was more awake and could talk. She had another major op the beginning of this year and she was completely unconscious after the op for very long time. We had to carry her back at ard 10 plus. So this time was a great relief to see her awake but den she still vomited alot at the op room. She kept complaining she cant breathe and so on. I am so saddened after seeing all this sight for the first time. Huge needles at her wrist, the liquid bag and all... Den me and sis tried to feed her with spoonful of milo... and kept rubbing her back and front to force out the air in her bloated and empty stomach. She got gastritis yet could not eat anything except a piece of bread early in the morning. It is such a heart aching sight. I was rather loss. Luckily sis was not seeing and doing this for the first time so she knew wat to do here and there. I was juz like an assistant. Mum continued to lie there and from time to time we fed her with milo and water.
At ard 9 plus near 10, mum decided to go home and sleep. All this while, the nurses had to wait there until she left as she's the last patient. Changed back in her clothes and all, we held her arms and put her in wheelchair. Finally got into a taxi and reached home. After a cup of warm cereal, she went to sleep. Meanwhile me and sis continued to do some work. I slept pretty earlier than usual as the next morning (which is today), I need to accompany mum to NUH again for checkup.
Today woke up ard 8 plus. Mum already up and walking ard. Pretty fine~ Ok, ard 9 plus we set off again via taxi. After waiting and seen two doctors, we went home. So now, mum sleeping and me blogging. Dad oso sleeping.... haiz... we all have been walking here and there, so all of us are tired...

I got to learn more abt what's wrong with my mum's left eye. It is something call Glaucoma. The liquid pressure in the eye becomes too high such that it presses on the optical nerve at the back which harms the nerve and causes some parts of the vision to go off. Initial symptom is the sides of ur vision is black. Without treatment, ur whole vision will slowly close, that is, the whole vision became black and left a hole in the centre that u can see. Finally, totally permanent blindness.
So what the doc had done previously was, they opened up a hole at the top of mum's eyeball to drain away the liquid and patched it up. They also put some plastic stuff and a tube inside her eye. However near the end of this year, the patch at the top later got infected and was painful. And due to that, there's leaking too. Hence, they now removed the patch and cover a new patch on top of the hole. Haiz..... so much things....

Monday I will need to go NUH again with her to do a second checkup. I think there will be alot of checkups coming up ........
Hey gal, been catching up on your blog *since I gone mia for shoots the past few days*. You seemed to be very troubled lately, what with your mum's condition and schoolwork. I know it's tough to see a loved one suffer and I really can't say much to help out here. All I can offer is a listening ear, so if you do feel that you need to talk to someone or even just have someone as a punching bag, don't hesitate to call me, okay?
try to be wif her?? i guess thats wat they want lar... as parents... juz for their kids to be wif them... so juz try to make time for ur mum?? can't really share her pain lar... but being there will surely help to lighten her load and the rest of ur family =)
yo thanks ppl... yea I've been trying to stay home more... unless I cant avoid. Den I did take up more of her household chores. Realised wringing the mop by hand is very painful and the after effects are the hands became very dry.... mum did it for years... I feel so useless.
