Career Woman
Been watching local drama series at channel 8 this holidays, esp. those 7pm and 9pm ones. and I must say that the local productions are really good for the recent years but some people will still believe that local productions are of lower entertainment and creativity value than overseas ones. Well, subjectivity plays a big part and whether one allows oneself to give a chance to appreciate local productions. I am referring to mediacorp productions by the way.
Recently a few drama series have been talking about issues regarding career women. They seem to make a point that a career woman will face family problem due to the lack of time they spend on family and that some in laws do not like their daughters-in-law to work. And mum kept commenting: "there u see, a woman should not be so focus on career mah.... " I was fighting back: "hello, can u have some pride for women? I believe women shld try to be able to juggle with both and compromising them. If everyone thinks like u, there won't be improvement for women in the society!"

I left abt a week plus plus before I end my internship.... and this is when alot of work comes in... why cant they give me earlier? haha, anyway now my work is rather fun though not as large scale as the typical commercial ones our company does most of the time. ok, I am very much involved with St Andrew Cathedral projects. Yea, long-time loan to them. But most of the time are juz paperwork and management stuff and bits of addition. This time, I am involved with their renovation to one part of the main cathedral. We had to work with electricians, contractors, suppliers, clients etc etc..... pretty scary especially when during meeting, all of them are matured experienced, "old" people and I am the only young one ard and being one of the 3 ladies there. The rest of them are all guys.... yea quite expected to see that in this line.... Anyway, many many changes and editing and I am in charge of the planning and drawings and trying to meet the needs and requirements of what those people and teacher wans. headache... been going to the cathedral almost everyday this week and yes, u would see me walking to and fro the city link and being out of office most of the time. Ok, good exercise for people like me who is prone to dozing off during office hours. *sheepish grin*
Last night, I worked til 3am in the office.... luckily my male colleague, who has been helping me with this project, accompanied me. Speaking of my colleague, he is many many many years older than me and is our senior. Yea, from nus architecture and he's attached already of cos. I was juz thinking how fortunate his gf is. Why I say that? Becos after these days of working together with him, I find him very knowledgable, and very efficient person who puts his mind and effort in making sure he does his work at hand well. Even his director and team members in his project praised him. And he even care to rush out work at a given short time. Meanwhile, he's still able to allocate time to accompany his gf, juggling time well. On top of that, he's quite a gentleman who ensure ur safety and all, very helpful and you know you can really count on him if u need help in your work. At least that's what I feel. I am able to survive through this current project all thanks to his assistance.
So I am thinking if next time if I have such reliable bf who also have such confidence (reasonable amount) and potential in his work, at the same time a nice gentleman and caring person, isnt it wonderful? I am sure his gf will feel great sense of security being with him. I really admire this colleague of mine aka senior. And the thing is tt even though he's matured and poised during work, he can be funny and humorous but not in the kiddy way. Both of us could still make funny comments on some issues, witty remarks and chit chat. But I think i am abit childish to him though. So I am saying, he has hard and soft side which is good. I quite respect him, and he has this calm, confident yet gentle aura ard him that does not overpower people. There are some who are bossy when they are too full of themselves or being too confident. For him, he knows when to give and take. Quite a number of people are telling me that they can forsee my bf will be many years, say 4-5 yrs, older than me. I was wondering issit becos I look old? Or is it becos I look like the type that go for matured people.
Together with more meaningful work, now my intern experience is more fun and enriching, learning and hearing from one another. That's shld be the way from the start.... why does this happen when my intern is ending... It's tempting me to extend my internship but I know i cant do that at the peril of my other plans. Still, I am grateful tat at least it makes me feel that my whole intern is not a wasteful trip even if it is juz for a short while.
